Morgan Corbitt
Born in 1997
Hometown: San Francisco
Morgan Corbitt works with collage-style oil paintings that reference both personal photos and public imagery. While photography has always felt instinctual to her, acting on this instinct has turned her into “an image hoarder”, according to the artist. From photography, Corbitt turned to painting as a way to sort through and organize the vast collection of images. Taking these images out of their original context, they take on a new, more personal narrative informed by the surrounding elements in the collage painting.
Corbitt received her BA in studio art at San Francisco State University in 2020. Her recent exhibitions include “People, Places, Things”, Good Mother Gallery, Los Angeles CA, (group exhibition, 2023); “Quarter Life”, Adobe Books Backroom Gallery, San Francisco CA, (solo exhibition, 2022); “Salt Fish”, New Image Art Gallery, Los Angeles CA, (group exhibition, 2022); “Crimson Tide”, Soft Times Gallery, San Francisco CA, (group exhibition, 2022).
