“Come into Thames Town. Taste Original British Style of Small Town.

Enjoy Sunlight, Enjoy Nature, Enjoy Your Holiday And Your Life.

Dream of England, Live in Thames Town.”

In 2001, in response to the constant growth of megacities, urban planners and strategists from Shanghai proposed nine new town centers, of which four towns were to be built from scratch. As a marketing strategy in distinguishing the new towns from each other and Shanghai’s existing city center, they were to include themed cities from different geographical regions.

The installation and film were shown during June 8th – July 1st, 2018 as part of the exhibition “European, Foreign & Domestic” curated by Alex Meurice (Slate Projects), at Averard Hotel in London.

The exhibition “European, Foreign & Domestic” featured Louis Amar et Marie Amar (Paris, FR), Amy & Oliver Thomas-Irvine (Cornwall, UK), Michael Iveson (London, UK), Jack Brindley (Glasgow, UK), Marc Einsiedel & Felix Jung (Hamburg, DE), Ittah-Yoda (Berlin, DE; London, UK; France) and Ophelia Finke ∩ JJ Lincoln (Frankfurt, DE; London, UK), and The Community.
