The final layer of the exhibition, happening on the last week, begins on Thursday with a Nottingham edition of Permanent Cuts – A multidisciplinary and experimental live music session co-curated by Cyrus Goberville of Collapsing Market. The Permanent Cuts marks the closing and the opening of The Community Live in Nottingham, an exhibition that has developed during March in the format of four-week long workshops.

The evening will consists of the following performances: a new live performance by Philippe Hallais created during the week at Bonington within the Writer’s Club in collaboration with Ethan Assouline, followed with live by Nkisi and finally by a DJ set by Cyrus Goberville.

The event at the gallery will be followed by an off-site event with all-night DJ sets by Low Jack and Cyrus. Venue with full details will be announced early next week.

The exhibition The Community Live in Nottingham is on view in its final form during Friday 29th and Saturday 30th of March.

Nkisi (UIQ)
Melika, alias Nkisi, makes a statement with her music, but also nurtures, inspires, comforts, and energises, creating an infinity of evolving non-conforming possibilities for her creative pursuits. She established herself in London’s underground scene via her vivid club-fuelled tracks, demanding full attention with exhilarating energy when heard. Her music evoking references from gabber, doomcore and African club, to the sonic spirals of sci-fi and 1970s Italian horror films. In 2015, NON WORLDWIDE was founded with her peers Chino Amobi and Angel-Ho, a collective and label focused on uncompromised music from across Africa and the diaspora, “who use sound as their primary media, to articulate the visible and invisible structures that create binaries in society, and in turn distribute power.” Nkisi’s music and artistic projects are intimate, her inspirations ever-layered in her productions yet with a careful conscious to harmonise each indistinct thread.

Philippe Hallais (Modern Love)
Philippe Hallais - aka Low Jack - is a French electronic composer, also running Editions Gravats label. He has released on Modern Love his first debut album under his own name, called An American Hero: a deeply seductive record of dream pop and ambient shimmers. The LP was the first part of the exhibition “Angela (An American Hero, Chapitre 2)” in April 2018 at The Community by Philippe Hallais and Ethan Assouline. The new live performed at Bonington Gallery is the third chapter of the collaborative project.

Cyrus (Collapsing Market)
Cyrus Goberville is co-curating the multidisciplinary Permanent Cuts sessions that were launched at The Community in November 2016. He co-runs the Paris-based Collapsing Market label with Louis Vial. Interested in contemporary scenes of both art and music, this collaborative project at The Community is a relevant way for him to gather the values of Collapsing Market.

This exhibition is generously supported by Fluxus Art Projects.
